Summer Scenes (2016)

Text

Three Summer Scenes
by Benjamin Beckman

i. on the lake
ripples spiral on the waters
lapping against the shore
an overlook, a green bench
an emerald forest surrounds
music everywhere
love fills my heart
time stands still while flying
pounding inside my chest
soothed by the beat of the waves
tapping quietly on the shore

ii. beneath the tree
life under the grass
must be brilliant, vibrant, exciting
blades tall as trees
little critters roaming the field
but for us, an oak stands
to rest against,
while watching the clouds
drift ever onward
and the creatures,
oblivious below

iii. under covered sky
the heavens shine above
with no one watching
dark and warm, inside
the cabin smells of worn wood
fallen rain and long gone sound
the music is silent, only the crickets
heard alongside the silence of night
but music fills my ears:
you are music
